It’s Lit: Humboldt County Students Turn Reading into a Team Sport

Eureka, Ca., (KIEM)- Reading is typically a quiet, isolated activity. Not today. For students from across Humboldt County, literature was the driving force behind relay races and “Family Feud” style trivia rounds.

It’s called the Battle of the Books. Participating fourth, fifth, and sixth graders must read (a minimum of fifteen on a list of) thirty books. Then those students (from elementary schools across Humboldt) are brought together. They form teams, and put their heads together to demonstrate what they’ve learned from hours of flipping through pages.

Participants line up for a ‘Reading Relay,’ Fri. April 27
