Arrested for Shooting a Tree: Man With Gang Ties Charged With “Reckless Discharge” of a Firearm

Eureka, Ca., (KIEM)- A man with known gang ties is arrested for shooting a tree. It happened Sunday evening when Eureka Police answered a call about a man hanging from a silver Ford Focus and shooting a gun.

Officers responded to Wabash and B Street, but the car was gone. They did find a single shell casing; they checked nearby security cameras, and saw the man in the car shooting into a tree, and got the car’s license number. A short while later, they found the car and its owner at a home on Hillside Drive in Eureka.

They say 20-year old Alfredo Vega matched the picture in the video. A search of his home found two loaded guns, one matching the caliber of the shell casing, and gang paraphernalia.

Vega was arrested and charged with negligent discharge of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, and carrying a loaded firearm in public while not being the registered owner/and while being an active gang member.
