Wanted felon arrested near Blue Lake

BLUE LAKE – Humboldt deputies stop to help a person with a flat tire, and wind up arresting a man with several felony warrants.

Around ten o’clock last night near Blue Lake, deputies on patrol saw a car on a jack missing its front tire. When they stopped to help, they recognized the driver as a wanted felon.

36-year old Charles Albert Kelley of Willow Creek was arrested on three active felony warrants, as well as being on probation. Deputies searched the car and found a loaded handgun in the back seat – they say it had been stolen in Hoopa earlier this year.

Kelley faces previous charges of vehicle theft, evading a peace officer, and possession of a controlled substance. His new charges include: being a felon in possession of a firearm, a prohibited person in possession of ammo, and stolen property.
