Memorial fund established for shooting victim

EUREKA, CA. (KIEM) – There is an outpouring of support from the community for a Fortuna woman who reportedly sacrificed her own life for someone else.

Sherry McDonald was killed on Sunday in Eureka.

Eureka police are now saying McDonald put herself in harm’s way that evening, when convicted felon Ronald Allen Crosland was attempting to kidnap another person, and pulled out a gun.

They say McDonald put herself between Crossland, and the person he was targeting.

McDonald was then shot and died of her injuries.

Crossland fled to Fortuna, where later that evening he shot and killed himself.

The investigation is ongoing.

A gofundme page has been set up in support of McDonald’s family, to afford funeral costs.

You can find that fundraiser, here.
