MCKINLEYVILLE – Arcata Fire had a difficult time responding to a fire at a Mckinleyville residence earlier today.

At around ten this morning, Arcata and Calfire personnel were called to a debris fire on Douglas road. The narrow road and a large number of parked vehicles made it difficult to reach the location. Fire fighters even had to cut through a neighbors fence to reach the scene.

Despite limited water access, crews were able to put the fire out quickly and prevented it from spreading to the garage of the residence. Fire Captain Angela Dernedde says this is an example on why homeowners should keep their residence clear of debris and vegetation.

Humboldt Bay, as well as Fieldbrook and Blue Lake Volunteer Fire Department all provided assistance to Arcata Fire.
