An interrupted vehicle theft

 

Not so fast! An in-progress vehicle theft is cut short when the victim, and bystanders- catch the suspect!

It happened yesterday afternoon on H and 8th streets in Eureka. Police say the victim was inside when he heard his vehicle start up. He then ran out and stopped the alleged thief, 36-year-old, Matthew Leach, and bystanders helped detain leach. Officers say Leach was accompanied by 45-year-old, Rowena Hardy.  Who walked away from the scene, but was found a few blocks away. Both were arrested; Leach, charged with auto theft and possessing burglary tools, and hardy for possessing burglary tools and stolen mail.
