HSU public radio station becomes part of quake warning system

ARCATA- Humboldt State University’s public radio station has become part of an earthquake warning system.

KHSU radio will test the US Geological survey’s “Shake Alert” earthquake early warning system.

The pilot program is being tested by universities and media all across California. Geologists say the goal is to give people as much advance warning before actual shaking begins.

The USGS says there is a 99.7 percent chance of a 6.7 or greater magnitude quake in California within the next 30 years.
