Eureka, Ca.,(KIEM) Today students at Cutten Elementary School were gifted a treat. Sheriff Honsal of the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office visited the elementary school to read to one lucky third grade class. It’s all a part of the, everyone reads, program where a guest speaker comes in and reads to students from schools all over Humboldt County.

Sheriff Honsal shares that he was thrilled to come in and read to the students of Cutten Elementary but it’s much more than that, “We want the first time people are meeting police officers to be positive so that when there is an emergency. It should be natural to reach out and to trust law enforcement. Coming here and reading to kids is really important and you’re breaking down walls and barriers and having a good time doing it. The kids love it!”

The Sheriff will continue to participate in the, everyone reads, program as he feels it’s important to the future of our youth.
