Eureka Police invite residents to partake in succulent sale fundraiser

EUREKA, Calif. (KIEM) From the Eureka Police Department:

Eureka Police Department volunteers, along with longtime resident Jerrie Bartley will be holding a fundraiser for Shop with a Cop and Neighborhood Watch on the 4th of July from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Eureka’s Old Town at the department’s safety booth at 2nd and D Streets.

The green thumb team will be selling succulents arranged by Jerrie Bartley and Suzie Owsley. “It was all Jerrie’s idea,” states Owsley. “She contacted me one day and asked if she could help with an event to raise money for our Shop with a Cop program. Jerrie loves succulents and has an eye for arranging. The next thing I know–we are in her backyard planting hundreds of succulents in clay pots, baskets, canning jars, and teapots!”

“Jerrie is a philanthropic force who works hard to help others, I am so glad we are friends. And she is a fabulous cook, which is a nice addition,” said Owsley. “If this sale goes well we will be making more arrangements for the fall and Christmas season.”

If you have succulents or succulent potting soil that you would like to donate to the project, please contact Owsley at 441-4371 or via email at sowsley@ci.eureka.ca.gov .

The Shop with a Cop is a program the Eureka Police Department facilitates every December, offering shopping trips to Target for deserving kids.

This year will mark the department’s fifth event. Kids are paired with law enforcement officers and take an early morning shopping spree after having breakfast together generously provided by Jesse Klair of the local McDonalds restaurants. This is a great community event our officers look forward to each holiday season.
