Ferndale appoints first female councilmember in 15 years

FERNDALE, Calif. (KIEM) – The first woman in 15 years to hold a seat on Ferndale City Souncil is appointed.

Staff voted three to 3 to 1 approve Jennifer Fisk-Becker to finish the term of former Councilmember Dan Brown, whose last meeting was in May, after he moved to Fortuna, disqualifying him from the role.

Three candidates were vying for his seat, including Fisk-Becker.

She has 30 years in education, teaches 4th and 5th graders at Fortuna Elementary School, and has served on the Ferndale Library board, among others.

She says in the new role she wants to focus on economic development.

Ferndale Council meets next on July 18th, at 7pm, in Ferndale City Hall.
