Mckinleyville, Ca., (KIEM) The Fourth of July is around the corner and some families will be out celebrating. With this Independence Day celebration comes plenty of fireworks. With fireworks can come injuries if those who handle them are not careful.
Arcata Fire Marshal, Ed Laidlaw, said he has seen severe trauma, in his years in the department, around this time.
“We had an injury three or four years ago,” Laidlaw said “A firework dismembered a young girl’s hand. It was very unfortunate.”
Now, the fire marshal tells families to allow the adults to handle all fireworks. He also said keep fireworks away from vegetation and structures. Also remember to have water and a fire extinguisher handy at all times.
