Evacuations lifted for Pawnee Fire, 50% contained

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) – A breakthrough in the fight against the Pawnee Fire.

Mandatory evacuation orders have been lifted, after firefighters were able to bring the wildfire under control.

The fire has burned about 13,700 acres.

It started on Saturday, and heavy winds made predicting where it was headed next, nearly impossible.

Some homes burned to the ground, others were spared – seemingly at random.

When local man Jay Michael got home, he was shocked that his home was still standing.

Another resident, Rodney Harper, wasn’t as lucky – his home burned to the ground.

“We’ve got to go forward. We’ve got to figure out what forward is, and make a plan on how to get there, and see how it works out,” said Harper.
