County Fire: 60,000 acres, 5% contained

NAPA, YOLO COUNTIES, Calif. (KIEM) – A wildfire burning in Northern California exploded in size to 60,000 acres.

The fire, named the “County Fire” began in Yolo County, but crossed over to Napa County on Sunday.

More than 1000 firefighters from around the Northern State have been called in to help battle the blaze.

There are mandatory evacuations in some areas, and fire officials say they expect to be battling this blaze for the next several days before they reach containment.

“You have the triple digit temperatures, you have the winds as we discussed pushing that fire from the north. Yesterday about four o’clock the winds came in and started coming out from the southwest.  So you have that erratic wind behavior which promotes that fire and causes a very, very erratic fire behavior that the firefighters have been contending with,” said Cal Fire Deputy Chief, Scott McLean.

Mandatory evacuations, and shelter information can be found, here.
