Mckinleyville man flees law enforcement and is taken into custody

McKinleyville – A McKinleyville man who was able to flee law enforcement is taken into custody several days later. Last Tuesday, Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies tried to pull over a vehicle on Highway 101 near the Giuntolli exit with expired tags and a non-functioning brake. The driver, 41-year old Leon Rockwell Peel, led deputies on a one-mile pursuit through McKinleyville. Peel exited the vehicle and got away on foot near the Hammond trail. But on Friday, he was arrested at a McKinleyville residence on the 1600 block of Bird Avenue. Peel was booked on a long list of charges, felony evading, resisting arrest, driving without a license, driving without current registration, and driving with a non-functional break light.
