The Ferguson Fire: Latest from Cal Fire and warnings from PG&E

Sierra National Forest (KIEM)- The deadly Ferguson Fire now in its 11th day. Ignited Mariposa county fire was more than 33,743 acres in size by 4:00 p.m. Monday. Fire crews have achieved 13% containment. There have now bee six injuries reported in connection with the fire, and this Monday 3,066 people are still risking their lives to fight the blaze. As it continues to burn in the Sierra National Forest, the Ferguson Fire has forced several evacuations and closed parts of Highway 140.

A memorial service was scheduled for Monday for Braden Varney, the ten year Cal Fire veteran and heavy equipment operator who died fighting the fire last weekend.

Wildfire threats may cause the PG& E to shut off service. They released a statement saying quote:“As part of this wildfire safety program, we are reaching out to our customers who are served by electric lines in extreme fire-threat areas to let them know that, if extreme fire danger conditions occur, it may be necessary for us to temporarily turn off power to their neighborhood or community for safety. We’re asking customers to update their contact information at www.pge.com/mywildfirealerts so we can keep them informed.”
