Eureka man arrested with meth by new Community Safety Enhancement Team

EUREKA, CALIF. (KIEM) – From the Eureka Police Department:

On July 31, 2018 at 12:15 pm, officers with the Eureka Police Department’s newly formed Community Safety Enhancement Team (CSET) contacted a subject at the corner of 2nd and A Streets.

The subject was identified as Andreas Sala McDaniel (58 years old of Eureka). A records check of McDaniel revealed an active warrant for his arrest for giving false identification to a peace officer. An incident to arrest search of McDaniel led to the seizure of over 5 grams of suspected methamphetamine and items consistent with possession for sales.

McDaniel was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of sales and the active warrant. He is being held on $55,000 bail.

This is an ongoing investigation and further details will be released if appropriate.

The specifics of the mission and directives of this flexible unit (which is still being developed) are subject to modification based on the needs of the community and department.

Mission: The mission of the CSET team is to proactively address quality of life, crime and disorder problems in the Old Town and waterfront/parks areas of the city while developing strategies to ultimately improve upon or eliminate these issues.Team Composition: The CSET team is currently staffed by a sergeant, three police officers

NEWS RELEASE

(MIST Officer, Old Town Foot Beat Officer, and rotational Parks/Waterfront Officer), a Reserve Officer, and the new, permanent Measure Z funded Parks/Waterfront Ranger position (when filled). This unit is under the command of the Investigations Captain. Team members will work staggered schedules that provide proactive patrol coverage of these areas, including special events, seven days a week.

Areas of Responsibility: The CSET unit is responsible for Old Town, all city parks, the entire length of the Hikshari Trail, and the waterfront/harbor areas of Eureka.
