The Race Across America to raise money for a local literacy program

He biked over 2,000 miles across the country. Tonight he donated a 30,000 dollar check at the Race Across America celebration held at the Sequoia Conference Center.

Michael Davies Hughes started his race across America in Oceanside, and ended his trip in Ohio. All of this was to raise money for the Humboldt County Office of Education’s Early Literacy Partners Program.

He says this money will enable volunteers to start training, to help support young local students in becoming strong readers. He tells us early intervention is the best way to ensure a literate adult.

The biggest donor was The Eureka Rotary Club, with $11,000. The McLean Foundation was another major donor. The rest came from the community.
