1,000 acre Eel Fire continues to threaten 40 homes east of Covelo

MENDOCINO COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) – The Eel Fire is about 1,000 acres as of Thursday night, and evacuations remain in place.

Estimated containment increased to 25% on the fire that started Tuesday, about ten miles east of Covelo.

About 105 people are evacuated from residences between Black Butte River, Anthony Peak, Forest Service Rd. M4, and Forest Service Rd.

M1 to mile marker 10. Forest Highway 7 remains open at this time, but the Mendocino Forest Service says to be aware that the ‘situation could change quickly’.

About 40 homes are threatened by the Eel Fire, as well as the Anthony Peak lookout, and cultural sites.

As of Thursday evening, 143 firefighting personnel are assigned to the Eel Fire.
