Pedestrian dies after Saturday night crash in Eureka

Eureka, Ca., (KIEM)- A pedestrian has died after being rushed to the hospital Saturday night in Eureka. According to California Highway Patrol, the crash that took their life happened just before 9:30 p.m. Saturday night.

Brian Perez was driving his 2003 Chevy Trailblazer south on US-101, just north of Herrick Avenue. He was travelling at 50 miles per hour. According to CHP, the pedestrian darted in front of Perez, who was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol. He braked, attempting to avoid the crash. Unfortunately, the pedestrian was hit.

The pedestrian has not yet been identified by the coroner’s office; their level of possible drug or alcohol impairment has not yet been determined.
