164,413 acre Carr Fire nearly halfway contained

SHASTA, TRINITY COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) – As of the first Monday of August, the Carr Fire stretches over 164,413 acres, and is 47% contained.

Many evacuations remain in place for Shasta and Trinity counties, with Shasta College and Trinity High School.

The Carr Fire has claimed the life of a PG&E worker, two firefighters, a great grandmother, and two of her great-grandchildren, as well as a senior who had undergone surgery and could not drive.

Monday estimates show at least 1,080 homes are destroyed, along with 24 commercial structures, and 500 outbuildings. Another 190 homes have been damaged.

On Monday, overheard smoke challenged firefighters, along with heavy timber fuels.

Firefighters are working day and night to construct control lines, which at this time, stretch 47% of the perimeter of the fire.
