Air Quality Update: in light of active wildfire season

Eureka, Ca., (KIEM)- According to the North Coast Air Quality Management District, there four fires that are generating smoke concerns for Northern California and Southern Oregon. The Klondike and Natchez Fires have the potential to impact Southern Oregon; the Carr Fire, Shasta and Trinity County;and the Mendocino Complex, largely Lake and Mendocino County.

They say morning Northeast winds may shift Northeast in the evening, meaning some smoke could be trapped in the evening. Along the coast, they say communities can expect haze and some periods of smoke, particularly later in the day.

The impact of the Carr Fire will be minor in Trinity County, and experts don’t expect conditions to change much through Wednesday.

The North Coast Air Quality Management district has particulate matter (PM2.5) monitors  in Gasquet, Klamath, Weitchpec, Orleans, Hoopa, Weaverville, and Eureka. Updates will be provided as conditions change.
