Crews continue working to improve fire lines for the Mill Creek 1 Fire north of Hoopa, which was 26% contained at 1,500 acres as of this morning.
224 fire personnel have directed their attack on the northeast flank of the fire. They are holding the flames in place along the southwest corner of the fire– that runs along Mill Creek Road down to highway 96.
There’s a temporary flight restriction in place and the Hoopa airport is closed to the public. The start date for school has been pushed back to September 4th.
Crews and other resources to assist in fire suppression are still needed. A structure protection group is in the process of being developed to help the community. The fire was caused by arson and a $10,000 reward is being offered. Call 1-800-468-4402 if you have any information on the fire.
