Mill Creek Fire 79% contained, Highway 96 back open to traffic

HOOPA, Calif. (KIEM) – Containment on the Mill Creek Fire goes up, and Highway 96 is back open to traffic.

Crews have now completed the work in the previously closed portion of Highway 96, and say it is safe for travelers once again.

As for the fire itself, it’s sitting at 3,643 acres, but is 79% contained.

The Mill Creek Fire was caused by arson according to firefighters, and they are still looking for a suspect.
