Agencies and Pharmacy’s offer safe ways to dispose of unwanted medication

Eureka, Ca. (KIEM)-The Eureka Police Department is encouraging the public to properly dispose of their expired and or unwanted medication.

The bin is located ā€œCā€ street in The Eureka Police Departments lobby. The public is encouraged to drop of medication in a sealed plastic bag Monday through Friday from 9 to 4. The bin accepts prescription and non-prescription medicines, controlled and non-controlled medications and pet medicine.

The Eureka Police Department joins the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office and several local pharmacies in installing these medication disposal boxes. Barnes pharmacy in Arcata and Lima’s pharmacy in eureka now have medication disposal bins, similar to the ones Cloney’s in McKinleyville and at the Sheriff’s Office in Eureka.

There are currently talks that online pharmacies are going to have the option for you to return any unused drugs safely to them. Drugs like cialis shouldn’t be falling into the hands of the wrong people, and therefore need to be disposed of correctly. It is said that these companies will provide free returns to encourage people to make use of the service.

The bins offer safe and legal disposal for drugs, which keep them from falling into the wrong hands or polluting water sources. This excludes things like needles and epi-pens. Please avoid throwing medication into garbage cans or into public water systems.
