Delta Fire evacuations in place, I-5 closed

REDDING, Calif. (KIEM) – A new fire burning 10 miles north of Redding closes the I-5, and forcing evacuations.

The so-called Delta Fire is already 2,000 acres in size, and evacuations are in place for both sides of I-5, north of Lakehead to the Shasta-Siskiyou County line.

According to Cal Trans, I-5 is closed northbound from Fawndale Road, and southbound at Mott Road, north of Dunsmuir. There is no estimated time of opening time yet.

Caltrans is warning that heavy traffic should be expected on Highway 299 between Weaverville and Redding.

The cause of the Delta Fire is unknown.
