EUREKA, CA., (KIEM)- Every year the California Nurses Association holds a Labor Day picnic. This year, the funds raised are being dedicated to Astraia Muir, the victim of an apparent murder suicide in Eureka. The money raised on September 3, 2018 will go the Humboldt Domestic Violence Services.

“We have all been in shock over the loss of our dear friend and co-worker Astraia since the senseless and violent taking of her life by her estranged husband,” said Lesly Ester of the California Nurses Association. “We felt compelled to take the opportunity at the picnic to raise awareness regarding the very real and persistent problem of domestic violence in Humboldt County, and in doing so were able to also raise funds for Humboldt Domestic Violence Services because they are on the front lines supporting, educating, and advocating for victims of abuse.”

HDVS aims to end the cycle of domestic violence, and will receive the money from the fundraiser on Tuesday, September 11th at 1 pm in the Labor Temple in Eureka.
