The Redwood Coast Energy Authority is moving forward to advance development of an offshore wind energy project, just west of Humboldt County.

Executive director with the Redwood Coast Energy Authority, Matthew Marshall, tells us they have submitted their leasing application to the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, for between 10 to 15 wind turbines.

Marshall says the visual impacts that far off the coast are fairly minimal, but adds that they will be studying potential environmental impacts in the coming years. The project will take about 6 years, if everything goes according to plan.
