Water, Sewer increase in McKinleyville

Mckinleyville, Ca., (KIEM) Earlier this month we told you that McKinleyville resident may see an increase in their water and sewer rates sooner than later due to the city’s board members idea of a Main Line Master Plan which will replace all underground water and sewer pipes providing long term sustainability.

In order to do that, the City of Mckinleyville will have to allocate close to $1 million dollars from the city increasing the water and sewer rate to 7% the first 2 years and 3% years following.

Manager, Greg Orsini said it’s important for the public to understand that rate adjustment will be in accordance to Proposition 218 which changes the way in which local governments raise revenues by ensuring taxpayer approval of charges and increases to existing charges.

Voters are also given the ability to repeal or reduce charges by voter initiative.

Orsini adds that although the MCSD is adding $7 a month on resident’s water and sewage bill, he explained that comparatively the city’s water and sewer rates are in the average ball park range, which is slightly lower than local competitors.
