APD Communications Center gets a makeover

Arcata, Ca.,(KIEM) The Arcata Police Department’s Communications Center has a new look thanks to the California Office of Emergency Services.

Every five years APD receives funds from OES based on the department’s call volume.

This year, funds covered upgrades to the department’s communications phone system and were used to purchase new dispatch work stations replacing outdated and malfunctioning stations.

The Communications Center also comes equipped with a treadmill and is the only Communications Center in Humboldt County with one, giving dispatchers the ability to stay active during long 12 hour shifts.
