Fortuna Police Citizen’s Academy begins

Fortuna, Ca., (KIEM) Wednesday, was the first day of The Fortuna Police Citizen’s Academy.

Citizens will undergo a 16-hour training, two hours per week for eight weeks and will receive a hands-on view of the roles and responsibilities of the department which involves a range of activities from arrest and radio procedures, crime prevention tactics and a ride along.

Wednesday evening started with personal introductions and intentions on wanting to join the academy, and ended with a tour of the Fortuna Police Department.

Attending the Police Citizen’s Academy is required to be a police department volunteer.
