Fortuna Volunteer Fire Department honors new firefighters

Fortuna’s Volunteer Fire Department just got a little bit bigger, as newcomers were recognized yesterday in a badge pinning ceremony.

Fire Chief, Lon Winburn, tells us 11 new recruits joined the department this year, four fire explorers joined the Fire Explorer Program, and also, five officers were promoted.

The firefighters were pinned by a family member of their choice. Fire Chief Winburn, says this will be great for the department, as retention rate is usually rare for a volunteer department.
