Mountain lion spotted near Humboldt State University

Arcata, Ca., (KIEM) A mountain lion sighting happened today in Arcata near Humboldt State University,

The Arcata Police Department received reports of a mountain lion sightings near lower California Avenue. The mountain lion was spotted at the bus stop at California Avenue and L.K. Wood and was also spotted on the porch of a nearby resident.

It was not reported what time the mountain lion was seen but Arcata resident, Karen Jamison, shared she is now nervous that a wild animal could be wandering around.

“I grew up in this kind of area but not necessarily in Arcata and I’m not used to it being on my street so it’s a little bit scary.”

Kendra Traynor, also an Arcata resident and HSU student said she’s scared to walk to school.

“I don’t even know what to do mountain lions are really big and I have pepper spray but I don’t know what pepper spray is going to do for a mountain lion. I don’t know this is kind of crazy because I walk to school every day so I’m a little spooked out by that.”

If you encounter a mountain lion, APD reminds residents to make as much noise as possible and make yourself look as big as possible. Remember do not run away.
