Brush Fire in Rio Dell contained at under an acre: heavy fuels slow work

RIO DELL, Ca., (KIEM)- Smoke rose near the old Eel River Sawmill site on Saturday in Rio Dell. Cal Fire and Rio Dell volunteer fire departments would both rush to the scene of a brush fire. That fire was difficult to access according to first responders, situated on the bluff.

It was also difficult to control. Cal Fire officials tell Redwood News, the fuels in that area are heavy and the fire (while contained at about a half acre) was difficult to extinguish. It wasn’t put out or 100% contained until Sunday.

Now Cal Fire says they’re hoping for rain, and relief from active fire conditions.
