Arcata, Ca.,(KIEM) Affordable housing in the City of Arcata is scarce and has been for several years. This week, in wake of a statewide day of action, a group of residents and supporters of Proposition 10 will conduct a Prop 10 Rally as the November elections, move-in closer.

The new state law that will be present on next month’s ballot, if approved, would repeal the Costa Hawkins Rental Housing Act, allowing counties and cities to adopt rent control ordinances that regulate how much landlords can charge tenants for any type of rental housing.

However, a “NO” vote opposes the initiative, keeping the Costa Hawkins Rental Housing Act continuing to prohibit local governments from enacting rent control on certain buildings.

Nathaniel Mcguigan of the Party for Socialism and Liberation local chapter shares that their group will be the first at the rally in support of Prop 10. Adding that housing should be placed in the hands of the people not developers, landlords or banks.

The Proposition 10 rally will take place tomorrow at 12pm at 954 H Street.
