Arcata, Ca., (KIEM) The Arcata’s Farmers Market may have had a little more activity happening on the plaza Saturday morning, filled with signs, members of several organizations, and the community.
In support of, We Are Your Community, a project which focuses on raising awareness about the diversity of people living on the North Coast.
Diversity Day highlights, We Are Your Community, and aims to bridge the gap between the local community and students of color. Over 15 local organizations took part in tabling on the plaza to engage with the community on the subjects of diversity, and to discuss the issues and experiences affecting people of color in Humboldt County.
“To bring the community together we really need to start that dialogue,” said Sage Thimarco, Member of Bahai. “In a community where people will often be separate, bringing them together we can really find solutions to problems that are plaguing society.”
The event also featured cultural demonstrations, a kid’s area and a raffle. The projects was launched by 2 Humboldt State University students.
