Coast Guard rescues diabetic sailor

TRINIDAD – A call for help at sea, turns into a daring Coast Guard rescue.

A 55-year-old sailor, was in a boat about five miles northwest of Trinidad yesterday, when he started feeling diabetic symptoms of low blood sugar, without any medication for OnBoard.

Around 3 p.m., the man made contact with the Humboldt Bay Coast Guard Station. They then organized an emergency rescue, to deliver glucose gel.

Once on scene, a helicopter crew lowered the gel to a motor lifeboat crew, who then helped the sailor stabilize his medical condition.

He was then towed safely to the Woodley Island marina around 9-pm… The crew, and sailor, arrived back safely.
