Stolen vehicle, loaded shotgun found during traffic stop in Eureka

EUREKA, CA. (KIEM)-A traffic stop ends with the recovery of a stolen vehicle, and shotgun in Eureka.

35-year old Tyrell Cornforth was arrested yesterday morning, after eureka police were dispatched to a residence on the 2500 block of Fairfield Street, to recover a stolen vehicle. They found the vehicle traveling north on Fairfield Street, and officers pulled over the suspect at a parking lot on Broadway. In the passenger seat, eureka police found a loaded shotgun that was stolen out of Siskiyou County.

Cornforth was arrested for vehicle theft, and possession of a loaded firearm and stolen property, among other charges. His bail is set at 75-thousand dollars.

PRESS RELEASE FROM EUREKA POLICE DEPARTMENT:

On 11-06-18 at about 7:45 am, officers of the Eureka Police Department were dispatched to a residence on the 2500 block of Fairfield for a stolen vehicle report.
While this report was being taken, other responding officers checked the area for the vehicle. The vehicle was quickly located traveling northbound on Fairfield Street. A high risk stop was conducted in the parking lot of a business at the 1700 block of Broadway Street. The solo occupant of the vehicle, identified as Tyrell Shane Cornforth (35 years old), was taken into custody without incident.
In the front passenger seat and readily accessible to Cornforth, officers located a loaded shotgun. A records check of the shotgun revealed that it had been reportedly stolen out of Siskiyou County.
Cornforth was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on charges of vehicle theft, possession of a loaded firearm, possession of stolen property, and other associated charges. He is being held on $75,000 bail.
