Camp Fire death toll rises to 56, hundreds still considered missing

BUTTE COUNTY, Ca. (KIEM) – According to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, as of Wednesday night, 56 people have died as a result of the Camp Fire burning in Butte County. The Camp Fire is considered the deadliest wildfire state history.

The death toll could possibly still rise, as hundreds of people are also still considered missing. For a list of those missing people from the Butte County Sheriff’s Office, click here.

The Camp Fire sparked last Thursday, and has since ravaged through 135,000 acres, and is 35% contained.

On Wednesday, forensics and search teams found an additional eight victims in the town of Paradise.

The cause remains under investigation, however power lines are being considered as a possible source.
