Eureka City Council votes yes on funding $450,000 stoplight

EUREKA, CA. (KIEM)-By a unanimous yes vote, Eureka City Council will move forward with using general funds for a $ 450,000 stoplight at the intersection of Vigo and Broadway.

This stoplight will give the green light for a new food plaza that is intended to include an In-and-Out, and Chiptole. During tonight’s special meeting, some members of the community expressed concerns over fast food giants coming to eureka. Some saying it does not follow the cities mission to support local businesses.

The City Manager plans to negotiate a revenue agreement with holding company Carrington Company, so that tax revenue generated from the new businesses, will go towards paying for the stoplight. The next step for the Carrington Company is getting approval from the city’s Planning Commission, before breaking ground.
