Community members chow-down at vegan potluck celebration

Eureka, Ca., (KIEM) The Vegan Society of Humboldt held their annual Thanksgiving Potluck Celebration at the Humboldt Area Foundation in Eureka.

Attendees were encouraged to bring their favorite holiday-inspired vegan main and side dish, dessert, or appetizer that would serve up to about 10 people. The potluck was open to the public and dozens of community members showed up to feast and share conversation.

The Director of the Vegan Society of Humboldt shared that, being vegan, benefits ourselves and the community, “We want to be cruelty free and as kind as we can to the planet, to the animals, and to ourselves that is actually very healthy and you know we can have turkey substitutes so we don’t actually miss any turkey,” said Esparza. “We been doing this since about 2008 I’m the third director and it’s something that has become a tradition and is usually well received by the people in the community.”

Vegan means no animal products, meat, chicken, dairy, eggs, animal-derived ingredients or honey.
