Local salon and non-profit raises money for wildfire victims

Eureka, Ca, (KIEM) In wake of the California wildfires one local business and nonprofit organization worked collaboratively to raise funds for those who lost so much in the devastation. Om Zone Salon and Wellness and Pay It Forward Humboldt organized a “Cut-A-Thon” Sunday morning where each haircut helped raise money to purchase gifts cards for those in need.

Stylists and volunteers geared up, clippers and blow-dryers, in hand all in effort to support a good cause. Salons from Fortuna and Arcata also came on board ready to help.

Organizers said they are excited that they can help out, and shared, that they have almost reached their goal and plan to help as many families as possible.

“I thought the more the merrier,” Megan James, Owner of Om Zone Salon and Wellness.

“I think that everybody wants to give back, I mean they see the devastation and the trauma across their newsfeed and in the news. Some are actually living in it and they really want to give back and help and don’t know how so we felt like this is an easy way for the community to come together get something we need while supporting a good cause,” said Desirae Hadley, President of Pay It Forward Humboldt.

Pay It Forward Humboldt will deliver the gift cards to families next Wednesday and Thanksgiving.
