New monument honors three fallen Eureka officers

EUREKA, CA. (KIEM)- A memorial monument in honor of three fallen Eureka officers has been installed in front of the police department.

The officers honored on the plaque include:

Patrol Officer Peter Hugh Carroll End of Watch Friday, October 31, 1947

Officer Joseph Patrick Mitchell End of Watch Sunday, December 1, 1974

Detective Charles Dewane Swanson EOW: Thursday, November 21, 1996

Officer Swanson’s son, Ryan Swanson, followed in his father’s footsteps. In February, Ryan Swanson was recognized by his superiors as an outstanding officer. For Captain Brian Stephens, the memorial is a remembrance of each officer’s sacrifice, for the community.
