Mad River Community Hospital makes honor roll for low C-section rates

ARCATA, Ca., (KIEM)- For the third year in a row Mad River Community Hospital makes the Smart Care California Honor Roll for low C-section rates.

C-sections are a common surgery that women undergo when giving birth. The procedure poses risk to mothers.

The state-wide goal is to reduce C-section births to less than 23 percent.

Mad River overachieved it with a low rate of 12 percent. Only 122 out of 240 maternity hospitals in the state made the list this year.
