Eureka Waterfront Trail set to receive 13-million in funding

EUREKA, Ca. (KIEM) – A major update on the Waterfront project. The plan is to use 13-million dollars to improve the Waterfront Trail in the area near the Slew Railroad Bridge, behind the Eureka Target.

On Friday, the State Transportation Commission announced they will award 13-million dollars to connect the trail away from Highway 101. It’s an ongoing problem for those riding too close to traffic.

The project is proposing three new bridges, while addressing safety hazards with barriers as well as addressing any environmental impacts or concerns. Humboldt County’s Deputy Director of Environmental Services Hank Seemann said they are taking all the necessary precautions before construction begins.

The project is anticipated to break ground Spring of 2021.
