New Pet Store Law in Effect in California

EUREKA, Ca. (KIEM) – A new California law is now in effect and it helps out our furry four legged friends!

Starting this year, pet stores will only be allowed to sell animals if they come from rescue shelters or non-profit organizations. In October 2017, the Pet Rescue and Adoption Act was introduced. This makes California the first state to introduce this type of legislation. Pet stores are now required to provide are required to provide records of origin for animals or face a 500 dollar penalty. But, individuals are still allowed to purchase pets from private breeders.
