Carjacking victim injured, pursuit ends in crash

EUREKA (KIEM)- A man who gave a ride to two men from a Eureka bar ended up injured and his vehicle stolen.

At around 9:40 Thursday night, Eureka police responded to the front parking lot of the General Hospital campus. It was there where the victim told police the two suspects assaulted him with a taser and possibly brass knuckles. They then pulled the victim from the Jeep Cherokee and drove off.

Officers located the vehicle but a pursuit was called off due to unsafe speeds.

The CHP then spotted the jeep northbound 101 near Arcata and was involved with a high speed chase.  With speeds reaching over 100 miles an hour, the vehicle crashed at the Patrick’s Point exit rolling over several times.

The suspect, who was not wearing a seat belt was taken to Mad River Hospital with major injuries. The second suspect is still at large.
