EUREKA, Ca., (KIEM)- The local crab season is just getting underway, but the combination of this storm and crabbers still awaiting tests results to the North. It will be a little while longer until we have fresh crab at our port.
The delay is because of the low levels of Domoic Acid and it has hit local crabbers in the pocket. But it’s not the first time there has been a delay. In fact Eureka City Manager Greg Sparks says this has become the new normal, over the last several years.
Although the commercial crab season just opened from Patrick’s Point south to the Mendocino-Sonoma County line, they are still awaiting test results to our north.
