EUREKA, CA. (KIEM) – The City of Eureka has some new strategies to lower the number of people sleeping on public property.

Back in November, the Eureka Police Department released an update on the public camping ordinance. Essentially lowering the number of reports taken for people sleeping on public property. This is the result of a Court of Appeals ruling, aimed to decriminalize people who sleep on public property. City Manager Greg Sparks shares a few ideas, on how the city and the police department plans to enforce the evolving ordinance.

The city is currently working with app developers to ideally introduce the app during the summer season.
