Village Housing Project reconsidered

Arcata, Ca.,(KIEM) The Village Housing Project formerly known as the Village Student Housing Project is again the topic of discussion within the City of Arcata.

This week, the city posted a modified plan for the 240 unit project; after the project owner reconsidered plans for the housing project to include open market, student-oriented housing, along with other major changes.

The Arcata City Council voted against the proposed project back in August of 2018. Stating that, they would consider approval if the apartment building included a mix of student purpose, built and unrestricted, open-market housing.

Wednesday, the city’s community development staff will hold a meeting as part of the development review. The purpose is to communicate project revisions, allow feedback from stakeholder and to discuss the city process for reconsideration.

There will be no public comment at the meeting and city council members will not be in attendance. Council will be updated on the discussion at its first meeting in February.

The meeting will be held Wednesday at 5:30 PM in the Council Chambers. If you would like to review the project log on to cityofarcata.org/Major-Development-Projects
