EUREKA, CA. (KIEM) – Crime and the homeless population are two main concerns here along the North Coast. And despite the efforts of the law enforcement, many residents are complaining about the drug abuse in their area.

During today’s Coffee With The Captains at Pierson’s, multiple people expressed there has been a rise in the amount of drug abuse in the city limits. One local claiming you can see people taking drugs in broad daylight.

Captain Brain Stephens says one reason people are not being served possession charges is that of props 47 and 57 which changed possession from a felony to a Misdemeanor. This eliminates the services they need.
